Most successful non 12 step program

When it come to drug addicts, we always think about certain clinic. Drug problem is actualy as any other health problem, in I like rather to think about approach to healing rather than about specified clinic or place or even price.

It is much more important to know something about what methods in rehab are used in some place (clinic or recovery sober) than name of place or organization, is it fancy or not, or how much costs. In last 50 years medicine, made different ways to take care about drug diseases and addicts. Some have more success and some have less success. No body can tell you exactly what type of treatment is best for certain addicts, but also, you must avoid failing in "mainstream" trap - to choose rehab program just because it is modern last days or something similar.

Today I will try explain a bit more one of alternative drug treatment based on non 12 step methodology, which I don't claim that is or it isn't better that classic 12 step treatments, but simple presenting you, to have in mind how other options look like.

Occasionally you hear people say things like, “Hey, so and so just went to drug rehab.” Just as often, you will hear that the individual completed the drug rehab program and began abusing substances immediately upon returning home and degrading own Health on that way? This scenario is not unusual. Conventional drug rehab programs (including alcohol rehabilitation programs) here in America are predominantly 12 step drug rehab oriented. Now we will focus in this text on non 12 step programs. This model of recovery comes out of the 1935 first century Christian drug rehab approach temperance movement now known as Alcoholics Anonymous. Through the last seventy years, America has adapted this AA philosophy into several different recovery models, all of which have a different name but the same method. There is the Minnesota Model of recovery, the disease model of alcoholism (and drug addiction), and countless others that adopt the credo that substance abusers require a drug rehab program if the participant expects to survive. All believe substance abuse is a disease.

Each program holds steadfast onto the concept that without a drug rehab program, the substance abuser will end up in jail, a mental institution, or will meet an untimely death, or many other health and social problems will be posible.

It is believed (without a shred of scientific evidence to support it) that the drug rehab program can then save this person from their internal defect and keep their destructive behavior at bay, at least for one more day.

Putting aside this common but misleading doomful hysteria, how effective are the drug and alcohol rehab programs that permeate our society. And, how does the Jude Thaddeus Program fare when compared to these classic 12 step based drug rehab programs?

Although prevalent, 12 step based drug rehabs are ineffective. When Baldwin Research Institute, Inc. conducted a survey of over sixty random drug rehab programs across the country and inquired into how they obtained their success rates, most answered by saying that conducting research to acquire sound drug rehab success rates is not necessary. The facility directors who answered in this way went on to state that success rate analysis is unnecessary because the people who “really want the program” get well, and those who are “not ready” will relapse. Thus and according to these drug rehab program directors, this faulty logic proved that there was no need to track drug rehab outcomes. This method of circular logic avoids the real question of why 80% - 95% of program graduates relapsed after being treated. The success rates for these programs are well documented at a range of 5%-20%. This is the same success rate range as no treatment at all. If only those who would have gotten sober on their own (without drug rehab treatment programs) succeed to remain sober after participating in conventional drug rehab programs, the question becomes, why do conventional drug rehab programs exist? Is there a method to help the 80%-95% who relapse after the completion of conventional programs? The answer, of course, is yes. The Jude Thaddeus program™ has had an independently verified success rate of 64%  over fifteen years.

Note: Of the three drug rehab programs that did publish success rates, two explained how their program managers (directors) called ex-patients to get an idea of who was doing well, and one program reservations spokesperson stated that they were not even sure what their program success rate was, even though their brochure and website touted a 74% rate of success! In any other circle this would be called false and misleading advertising.

Making matters even worse, many drug and alcohol rehab programs have added more confusion to the contrived complications of alcohol and drug abuse. Besides the misleading and downright fraudulent claim that alcohol and drug abuse are diseases, the myth is now further complicated by prescribing mind-altering antidepressants and antipsychotic medications that are handed out liberally by ill-informed expedient doctors.  Inexplicably these well educated “professionals” prescribe these dangerous drugs for a disease that does not exist and knowing that a common side affect is an increase risk of suicide!

With all this said, the Jude Thaddeus Program™ is not a drug or alcohol rehab. It has been well established for more than seventy years that conventional 12 step alcohol and drug rehab programs have little or no affect helping people stay sober.  In fact many independent studies report that the success rate of conventional 12 step alcohol and drug rehab programs is less than no treatment at all. That is to say that participation in conventional 12 step alcohol and drug rehab programs actually decreases the probability of becoming alcohol and drug free and remaining alcohol and drug free.  The Jude Thaddeus Program™ is an educational retreat that, as we have stated earlier, has success where other drug rehab programs fall short. Why?

First, we base all our program material on research, comprehensive education and common sense. The Jude Thaddeus Program™ is effective because it teaches permanent solutions, it builds on the hard work of maturing and changing negative habits into positive action, and it makes clear how to accept positive deferred gratification through stick-to-itiveness, and carefully constructed, goal oriented plans. Although these principles are time tested, they require work, and the willingness to change.

Addiction is a disease – the Great American Myth.

The Jude Thaddeus Program™ does not advocate belief in the disease of addiction myth. There is no disease of alcoholism; there is no disease of drug abuse; and, there is no disease of addiction! Therefore there is no need for drug rehab programs that waste precious time using therapy to push the disease of addiction agenda. This is just one of many areas where the Jude Thaddeus Program™ departs from conventional treatment and why the Jude Thaddeus Program™ is significantly more effective than the conventional drug and alcohol rehab treatment model. Teaching our guests to take personal responsibility for their choices rather than making excuses for choices that result in poor behavior is the cornerstone to rebuilding their life. A disease by its very nature is out of the person’s control. This is simply not the case with substance abuse. Substance abusers make the choice to abuse alcohol and drugs. The millions who stopped abusing drugs chose to stop.  Choice is a behavior, not a disease.

Happiness

Inherently, people want to be happy—to have joy in their life. This is why the shortcut to happiness through alcohol and drug abuse is so alluring. While this type of quick fix to happiness can, and often does, provide temporary happiness, it certainly not a pathway to sustained happiness.  The Jude Thaddeus Program™ demonstrates through an educational process that there is so much more to life than quick fixes. The program text book, The Jude Thaddeus Program has four themes that when completed in order, transforms lives.  The themes are:

1. Empowerment.

“There is no disease of addiction; addiction is a habit that you have chosen. Therefore, you have the power to change this habit no matter how deep-seated you may think it is.”

2. Analyze your entire life history, through the autobiographical process.

“Let us look together at all the counterproductive choices you have made in your life, and then, examine these patterns in minute detail.” This is completed by the end of week three and enlightens our guest as to how his (her) life became so counterproductive and in many cases destructive. This autobiography process is a means to an end. It is not meant to be dwelled upon, but rather, it is created to make it clear how choices may have slowed the maturing process and caused grief and sometimes debilitating depression.

3. Create a comprehensive future plan built on assessed talents, positive goals and finding joy in career, as well as in family and friend relationships.

This theme provides the gateway to a new life. It is absolutely imperative that the guest have a well constructed plan before returning home. Being prepared for the future makes the transition from the program to the individual’s life at home a pleasure rather than a source of anxiety.

4. The Jude Thaddeus Program offers several services that customize the program to fit the student’s needs.

Continuing Education is an additional 4 weeks of education, if needed. This program, like the 6 week Jude Thaddeus Program, is custom tailored to the needs of our guest and provides for additional help in career development, social skills training, GED preparation and acquisition, job placement assistance, college preparation, along with a myriad of other services. Because our retreat houses have a maximum of twenty four guests per facility, the average ratio of guest to staff is one teacher for every three students. Individual classes are available when indicated.

Conclusion is that maybe we can think in direction of non 12 step rehabs,  rater than classic 12 steps rehab, since as you can see believing in something that is not giving best result, just because we heart that is synonym for drug rehabilitation, so consider non 12 steps today like Jude Thaddeus is.

Drug rehab for teenagers

Whether you are a parent, grandparent or any other person who cares about a child's future, it is important that you be knowledge about how to prevent teen drug abuse. It's hard for us to imagine that a child we love could end up using drugs. But chances are, most children will be faced with, "Should I, or shouldn't I?" As parents we must teach our children to know that the answer is, "I shouldn't, and I won't."
Here are some facts about kids and drug use: Forty percent of U.S. teens say they expect to use a drug in the future. One out of every five kids in eighth grade has already tried marijuana. Use of substances such as marijuana and inhalants can result in social consequences (e.g., failing in school) and physical consequences such as reduced stamina and fitness or damage to the lungs and brain. Teens who smoke cigarettes are more likely to drink alcohol. Teens who smoke and drink are more likely to use marijuana. And those who use all three are more likely to use other illicit drugs. Long-term studies show that use of other illicit drugs among youth almost never occurs unless they have first used marijuana.
If you suspect your teen has been using drugs or drinking alcohol, it's important to act quickly: the longer your teen abuses substances, the more likely they are to become addicted. If you do find the problem is beyond your expertise, there are teen drug treatment programs that specialize in the special needs of this population.

Be especially scrutinizing as you determine the drug detox program that meets your child's specific needs. Many of these teen programs also offer boarding school academics so they can continue to earn credits while recovering from their addiction. For those who can't afford such addiction rehab programs, there is always chance to find some good free drug rehab centers or programs.

Teen drug rehab

Children with drug and alcohol addictions will "slip through the net" when the state's only residential rehabilitation program for young teenagers closes this month because of a lack of funds.
The state-appointed child safety commissioner has called on the Government to help save the program, in Melbourne's east, after donations dried up amid the global financial crisis and outpouring of aid to bushfire victims, or in other words no more free drug rehabs for teenagers.

Commissioner Bernie Geary, who advises the Government on the safety and wellbeing of children, said that unless the Government responded to the need of the Tandana Place program for 12 to 20-year-olds, vulnerable young people would "slip through the net". "They are the young people we find in prisons and abject and long-term homelessness," he said. "It has a ripple effect, it affects broader families. The community needs places like Tandana and it's in all our interests that it continues.
"The Government needs to be responding. It needs to have a look at what they (Tandana) are doing and understand they fill a niche that would otherwise not be filled."
Children as young as 13, many of them in state care, have sought help for addiction and mental health issues through the eight-to-16-week program, run by Waverley Emergency Adolescent Care.

The program has been a place of refuge for more than 220 young Victorians over the past decade, about half of whom first tasted alcohol or drugs at 12 or 13.
Program chief executive Maureen Buck said the post-detox residential facility, at Mount Waverley, would be forced to close on June 30, after the Government declined to fill a $100,000 shortfall in donations.

"Donations from January to now are something like $23,000, whereas this time last year we were close to our budget of $200,000," she said. "The State Government has to be really mindful of the duty of care, of what they're doing to the younger-age kids who for whatever reason are substance abusing — whether it's family breakdown, physical abuse or sexual abuse."

Ms Buck said 28 teens aged between 13 and 15 were among those who had received family therapy and meditation, job education and training, and harm minimisation strategies.
"What's going to happen to these kids? We've got about seven referrals sitting there waiting to come into the program and we've had to tell them we're shutting the doors. Some of these kids have started using alcohol when they're five or six. It's pretty devastating."
Separate foster care services would not be affected, she said.
The Department of Human Services provides about $87,000 a year to Tandana for referrals through the juvenile justice system. But it won't give the extra money to keep the program afloat. DHS spokesman Paul Heinrichs said: "The Government takes the view that this service can be provided and is being provided elsewhere."
After being contacted by The Sunday Age on Friday, the department sought a transfer for a current Tandana resident to Birribi, a residential rehabilitation program for older teens run by the Youth Substance Abuse Service.

The program, which caters for up to 15 young people at a time, is pitched at 16 to 20-year-olds.

"The view of the department is that there is a fairly low demand for this age group (12 to 16) in residential rehab and what demand there is can be met elsewhere in services that are underutilised," Mr Heinrichs said.
But Youth Substance Abuse Service executive director David Murray said young people could expect to wait between four and six weeks to enter Birribi. Closure of Tandana would increase pressure on the system, he said.

As you can see, those data about young drug addicts are not optimistic at all.

Choosing of a drug rehab is one of the most significant decisions to make for you or for your loved one. Drug addiction treatments are multi-phased with both short and long term procedures. Generally most of the addicts believe themselves that they can overcome their addictions on their own without the help of outside resources. Unluckily, when the addict makes an effort at drug detoxification without the assistance of professionals the results doesn’t last long.

Drug rehabs centers believe to present the best information about drug rehabs and meet your particular treatment needs which make your life free from substance abuse. The drug rehabs information given in the site doesn’t use any drugs during their treatment.
In order to receive professional assistance in any of the drug rehab centers, we need to get clear answers for all our queries. Addiction treatment centers concentrate to provide mental health and behavioral treatment in their program because these methods help drug and alcohol addicts to change their way of thinking.

People should spend some time while choosing a drug rehabilitation center has experienced staff and offer licensed residential treatment services. Find out detailed information on the success rate of the rehabs, and where is it located. These questions seem to be irrelevant but they are very important for a successful drug rehab program.

Different types of free drug rehab

The different types of free drug rehab depend upon the degree of dependence, the patient's social situation, and the kind ofdrug to which they are addicted. Some rehabilitation treatments have medical components, to ease the symptoms of withdrawal, intensive counseling, and methods that address underlying causes of addiction. In general, one can differentiate between drug rehab with in-patient, or residential, requirements versus out-patient treatment.

Different types of drug rehab rely on disparate philosophies on the nature of addiction, available resources, and the degree of cooperation from the patient. The medical, psychological, and law enforcement communities disagree on which programs are most successful, therefore there are a variety of paths towards recovery. While varied, these paths go through similar stages, beginning with detoxification, going through therapy, and ending in integration into employment and housing.
Often, every type of drug rehab starts in a medical setting so health professionals can oversee the chemical detoxification by which the drug chemically leaves the system, and the person is no longer physically dependent upon the drug. Under supervision, the patient's side effects can be tempered by medication, as well as proper nutrition and sleep. This interventionary stage is rarely enough to allow a patient to fully recover from a drug addiction, for there is no psychological element.

A residential, in-patient treatment center provides full-time supervision in a tightly controlled environment. Living in a facility associated with a hospital, psychiatric center, or community outreach center, provides underlying support with meal plans and housing. This type of drug rehab usually involves a short, interventionary program, often as little as 30 days, with the expectation that the addict will continue treatment in an out-patient setting.
Some other intensive types of drug rehab rely on voluntarily attended out-patient treatment, which means patients live and work on their own. They attend meetings, counseling sessions, or classes designed to equip the addict with new coping mechanisms so that when they encounter stress, they no longer turn to drugs. This includes so-called 12-step programs, such as Narcotics Anonymous, that have a strong spiritual basis. Drug rehab of this sort could be official, with a trained counselor present during anti narco therapy, or casual, in a community setting.

Finally, there are a few types of drug rehab that attempt to address the underlying causes of addiction and repeated relapse, such as estrangement from family and friends, no support system, low employment skills, mental illness, and living in a community united solely by drug use. This holistic approach to drug rehab includes halfway houses and community centers, where an addict acquires job skills, practical advice, and has enough time to completely remove themselves from old acquaintances. Such a facility often allows patients to stay for an extended period of time, such as six to twelve months, until they are confident they can function independently without returning to their addiction.

Narconon Drug Rehab Program

Certain drugs such as heroin and alcohol can not normally be discontinued without considerable physical discomfort. With a pre-medical evaluation, we provide a safe, 24-hour care procedure for a drug-free withdrawal .

During this step of the program, the individual is put through a carefully designed withdrawal program that enables him to come off drugs without experiencing the usual agonizing withdrawal symptoms. Drugs and alcohol deplete the body of vitamins and minerals. We use specific and natural nutrition to help the body to rebuild itself. The individual undergoing withdrawal is under the careful supervision of a Withdrawal Specialist 24 hours a day, until the physical and mental discomfort is no longer present.

This course is all about rehabilitating the ability to simply talk with other people. It involves drills and other practical actions that enable students to improve their ability to confront situations in life through communication. People with drug or alcohol problems typically have a difficult time being honest with themselves, and others, about what they may see as an unpleasant subject. When forced to confront difficult issues, they withdraw from friends and family. There are eight specific exercises in this course that specifically deal with the many different aspects of communication. This approach helps students to develop focus, making a person capable of confronting and easily resolving their problems with others.
his process produces spectacular results by removing the root causes of future physical drug restimulation. Research has established that many types of drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, Valium, PCP, amphetamines (crank, crystal, meth, ecstasy, etc.) alcohol and medicinal drugs such as narcotic painkillers, tranquilizers and sleeping pills, can remain in the body for years. Over time, these residues can become stored in the fatty tissues of the body. When this happens, these stored residues can be released making it difficult, if not impossible, for the addict or alcoholic to remain drug-free.

The program utilizes an exact regimen of medically supervised exercise, intensive sweating in a dry sauna, in combination with plenty of fluids and nutritional supplements in order to reduce the drug residuals in the body. These residues, if not removed, can trigger future drug cravings and depression. A vital step in the successful rehabilitation of substance abuse is flushing out these accumulated residues so that the addict no longer experiences any adverse effects from the drugs he has taken. The results of this process can be spectacular. In many cases, completion of this portion of the program results in greatly reduced cravings for drugs, or the complete elimination of these cravings entirely. Mental alertness and clarity of thinking improve while drug-induced depression often vanishes.

Maybe christian drug rehab will give better results?

What is christian drug rehab? I wrote about many other aproaches, but didn't about this: religion and drug rehab. Maybe to atheists that will not sound good but I think that is worth to try. Here is what I found on one popular source for christian drug rehab:

"Christian drug rehab centers and Christian drug treatment programs are some of the most effective programs for the Christian seeking a life without drug addiction. We have researched many Christian drug rehab centers and have compiled a list of the most effective Christian drug treatment programs . Please don't hesitate to get yourself or someone that you love into a Christian Drug Rehab center.  Don't put off today as tomorrow may never come for someone that has a drug addiction. God only helps those who help themselves so take the first step and start on the path of recovery now. Let us guide you into the light from out of the dark.
God does not show favoritism but accepts men from any Nation who fear him and do what is right. This passage is taken out of Acts 10 and can be interpreted that now matter where you come from you will be accepted into the house of the Lord. Once we have asked for forgiveness for our past transgressions nothing can be called unclean that God has made clean."

I hope that this will influence on You to try also and this way. When you need health it wort to try everything. Also take a look at  list of US Christian drug rehab centers. If you don't like Christian rehab but want some other no cost therapy, look at post about free drug rehabs, you may find affordable options or even completely free for this type of religious treatment.

Risks of drug treatment for sperm antibodies

What are sperm antibodies?

Antibodies are proteins made in the body by the immune system to fight infection or disease.  They attack anything in the body that is foreign i.e. what is not part of the body. For example, when a bacterial infection causes a sore throat, the body recognizes that the bacteria are foreign and makes antibodies to coat the bacteria and help the body's defense systems to get rid of the infection.

The body’s ability to tell the difference between what is itself and what is foreign is usually ‘programmed’ before birth. Because sperm are produced at puberty, well after the immune system has developed, the body will make antibodies against the sperm (anti sperm antibodies).  Normally, there are systems in place within the testes which lessen the response of the immune system to sperm and prevents the production of sperm antibodies in normal men.  When these systems breakdown, for reasons that are not clear, the immune system develops antibodies against sperm.

About one in every 16 infertile men produce antibodies to their own sperm (also known as sperm autoimmunity).Sperm antibodies commonly are found in men after vasectomy and injury or infection in the epididymis.  However, in many instances, the presence of sperm antibodies cannot be explained.

How do sperm antibodies affect fertility?

Sperm antibodies can reduce fertility in a number of ways:
  • Sperm antibodies can interfere with sperm production within the testes and reduce the number of sperm in the semen;
  • Sperm antibodies can coat sperm, causing it to clump together, reducing the movement (motility) of sperm. This stops the sperm from swimming through the liquid in the female cervix and tubes when ejaculated into the vagina;
  • Sperm antibodies can prevent sperm attaching to and penetrating the egg during the fertilisation process.
There are usually no other effects on a man’s general health and no signs that might indicate that the sperm antibodies are present.  Some men with genital tract blockages also have sperm antibodies.

How are sperm antibodies treated?

Prednisolone, a cortisone-like drug, and also drugs to grow taller can be used to lower the levels of sperm antibodies in the body.  Several research studies have shown that treatment with prednisolone can decrease sperm antibody concentrations and improve the chances of achieving a natural pregnancy. About one in four couples become pregnant while the man is taking this drug.

What are the risks of drug treatment for sperm antibodies?

High doses of prednisolone can cause weight gain, a rise in blood pressure, mood swings, acne, diabetes or peptic ulcers.  Some of these side-effects disappear after treatment stops.
However, this drug can severely affect the blood supply to the hips and approximately one in 200 men using this treatment have permanent hip damage and need hip replacement.

Interesting data: Effectiveness of Drug Treatment

Decided to post this very interesting study about drug rehabilitation success, please read careful, there are some very interesting data about numbers and other realted to paid and free drug rehabs:

The Substance Abuse and Crime Prevention Act of 2000 seeks to divert non-
violent drug offenders out of the criminal justice system and into drug treatment.
Research shows that treatment improves drug users’ health, reduces criminal
activity, and saves precious tax dollars.

Treatment improves the health of drug addicts and reduces related health
care costs placed on the public. The 1994 California Drug and Alcohol Treatment
Assessment (CALDATA) found that people receiving alcohol and drug treatment
were hospitalized one-third less often after completing treatment than before
entering such a program. And the 1996 National Treatment Improvement
Evaluation Study (NTIES) found that substance abuse-related medical visits
decreased by more than 50 percent following treatment, while in-patient mental
health visits decreased by more than 25 percent.
Treatment is the most cost-effective way to deal with drug dependent persons.
The CALDATAreport found that a dollar invested in alcohol and drug treatment
results in over seven dollars in social savings due to reductions in crime and
health care costs. Another 1994 study by the Rand Corporation found that each
additional dollar invested in treatment for cocaine addiction resulted in $7.46
worth of savings in societal cost due to reduced crime and increased productivity.
Treatment was rated as 14 times more effective than incarceration in reducing
these social costs of drug abuse.

Treatment also reduces the criminal activity of drug dependent persons.
According to the CALDATA report, criminal activity declined by two-thirds
after treatment. The NTIES found that individuals who completed treatment
were arrested 64 percent less likely to be arrested in the 12 months following
treatment than they had been in the 12 months preceding treatment. The 1997
Drug Abuse Treatment Outcome Study (DATOS) found that outpatient methadone
treatment reduced criminal activity by 57 percent.

Finally, treatment can improve employment opportunities and reduce
dependence on welfare for drug dependent individuals. The NTIES research
found that 19 percent more persons received income from jobs within 12 months
of completing treatment, and 11 percent fewer persons received welfare benefits.
